Are Your Patterns Giving or Taking Your Power?
It’s wonderful to be back home and back into things with that renewed clarity of time out of routine and out of the patterns that can often just keep looping around to the same point. Or the same conversation. Or the same feelings.
For just over a month, Shane and I hit pause on the patterns that are directly related to home - sleeping in a swag instead of our bed, using different cups for our chai, practicing in unusual spots everyday, arriving somewhere different, with different requirements every night.
Instead of wake, practice, feed the animals, make the school lunch, do the school run and into work, it was wake, put on everything we had, boil water on a gas stove, pack up, drive, strip off layers, stop, hike, drive, stop, set-up, figure out how to make dinner, where to see the sunset, sleep and then do something slightly, or completely, different the next day.
When we’re away from home, the web of patterns that can hold us like a safety net or strangle us in daily life, fall away bit by bit. They are simply not relevant to that space or moment or infrastructure. We have to adapt anew, again and again. We participate in our own neural elasticity. We seek new patterns to make the new processes more efficient.
Here I am, still banging on about patterns! My truest obsession, a pattern about patterns :).
You see, we are so much about patterns, helpful, harmful and indifferent. They feel like EVERYTHING. Yet patterns, because they are of the mind, are only really, just 1% of you. The other 99% is the part of you that’s deeper than the body, breath and mind - it is bliss, it is source, it is all of the vitality and energy of the entire Universe. In. Side. You.
To be of this earth we need patterns, they are part of having a human mind and human body and a human experience, they are about how we get things done but the more efficient we become with the patterns that help us and those that harm us, the healthier, happier life we can lead.
