Is There Anyone More Powerful In The World Right Now Than a Gen X Woman?

Please women of Gen X, tell me if you relate…

Some mornings I wake up as anxious as a teenage girl. But the difference is, at just a few months shy of 50, I’ve got a whole kit of tools to shift that anxiety and transform it.

Some mornings I wake up with more clarity than I have ever had. Decisions are direct, fear of outcomes is non-existent. At a few months shy of 50, I don’t question it, I step fully into it.

Right now, the women of Generation X - latch key kids raised by Mum’s who worked fulltime, women who embraced booze, drugs and sex as hard as their male counterparts, women now in their 40s and 50s who experienced sexual assault and trauma as the norm, and who’ve instigated a powerful social narrative around consent, better health, female physical strength and conditions in the workplace that support a female endocrine system - are going through perimenopause. And what I will say is:

LOOK OUT WORLD

I believe in the revolution that is perimenopausal women of Gen X. A coming of age and power, visibility and wisdom, unlike anything the world has ever seen.

I see every day in my clinic as a Therapist, women over 50 determining that they will not diminish, they will not accept the status quo. I see them in the most turbulent hormonal experience of their lives, second only to puberty, deciding to do things differently.

I see them through the anxiety and uncertainty of a changing physical and emotional landscape, coming into the strength of this season, as set in motion by the women before us.

I see on my myriad of screens: women in sports with phenomenal quadriceps, CEOs determining that their biologies will be honoured in the workplace, I see female TV presenters and radio hosts who lead the conversations, and women political leaders talking about common sense and compassion.

Perimenopause is a force with all the potential to elevate the ovulating woman into a female force of nature. Without education, without understanding, it also has the power to break a woman’s spirit. Particularly within a framework that wasn’t designed with women in mind.

It will be perimenopausal Gen X women who take this next wave of the revolution to a new level -  the level that brings in best practice for all people. That doesn’t just allow women to play the game constructed by men for men but change the rules so that inclusivity of different biological needs - male, female and all in-between and beyond - is at the centre of decision-making.

Perimenopause is hard and hilarious, confusing and immensely clarifying. It is polar opposites to find a potent centre.

It is Gen X right now, getting ready to take over this shitshow.

Imagine how potent that will be with the framework of yoga to get us there in peak condition of body, mind and spirit.
